This is a short novella/taster for the new series ( Dangerous Creatures) that Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl are working on that will continue the Caster Chronicles. So, I loved the new set up, I love the cast, I love the continuing story of the Beautiful Creatures crowd. This book was plot driven with its psychological issues, it's action packed scenes, it's heart breaking moments with a side of hotty goodness and sweet moments that just tears at your heart.

Link and Ridley have never marched to the beat of the traditional drum, so I look forward to what's up next.

What will happen next, and why people want to kill Isleen, kept me guessing and kept me turning the pages until I finished the book.I don't think it'd make a lot of sense to anyone who hasn't read the original series; as it was, it took me some time to really get into it / remember the setting and magic and characters well enough for things to fall into place. I have this theory that some characters are not meant to be point of view characters, because that kills part of what makes them fascinating and I’m afraid that is what could happen to Ridley. He works with the police force and helps them in investigating and especially interviewing suspects that don't want to cooperate. Still, I like that you see how Ridley’s adjusting to being a mortal and how Lena’s decision to claim herself has consequences that you see in this short novella.

I feel like I could cut and paste the review for the first iteration of this book but this book is awesome and this new title and new cover deserve a new review. I’d been unsure about even starting this new series by Garcia and Stohl since I wasn’t super fond of the Caster Chronicles. It’s narrated by the same guy who narrated the rest of the series, and he did great, but it was hard to see it as truly Link’s story when all I could think about was how Ethan (because really, that’s who he is to me) was telling Link’s story.
