If you're not interested in the Smart Cover (or any of the cases in the Apple Store), don't worry—you can find hundreds of alternatives if you search online or in retail stores. No matter what you choose, a good case or cover will go a long way toward protecting your device so you can enjoy it for years to come. The iPad uses an on-screen soft-keyboard like the iPhone or iPod touch; but there's an optional, full-size keyboard available. And because the iPad has built-in Bluetooth 2.1, it works with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, as well. Your iPad features two important buttons: the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button. The Home button is the circular button found on the front of your iPad, while the Sleep/Wake button is located on the top of the iPad. We'll go into more details about these buttons later on. A powered USB hub, one that plugs into an AC outlet, will probably recharge your iPad. Some USB hubs don’t provide enough juice to recharge an iPad, but others do. If you have a powered hub, try it. If you see the Not Charging message, your hub’s not juicy enough.

Important Product Information Guide pamphlet: Well, it must be important because it says so right on the cover. You can find basic safety warnings, a bunch of legalese, warranty information, and info on how to dispose of or recycle the iPad. (What! You’re getting rid of it already?) A few other pieces of advice: Don’t drop the iPad if you can help it, keep the thing dry, and — as with all handheld electronic devices — give full attention to the road while you’re driving (or walking, for that matter). Or, if both devices have iOS 12.4, iPadOS 13, or later, you can transfer all your data wirelessly from your previous device to your new one. Keep your devices near each other and plugged into power until the migration process is complete. What’s not in the box are earbuds. If you want to use earbuds (or a headset) for music, video, games, or anything else, you have to find a pair elsewhere. Consider finding one that includes a built-in microphone. In addition to its aeronautical uses, airplane mode is the simplest way to conserve power (short of turning the iPad off, of course), and if you want to concentrate on something, it may be a simple tool to use. There are also some additional accessories you can buy, like the Apple Pencil (available for the iPad Pro and some iPads) and the Smart Keyboard (only available for the iPad Pro). The top button: This button is on the top of your iPad, and you use it to put your iPad’s screen to sleep or wake it up. If you connect the USB cable to USB ports on your keyboard, USB hub, display, or other external device, or even the USB ports on an older Mac or PC, you may be able to sync but more than likely can’t charge the battery.

Don’t keep your iPad connected. Your battery may lose power if you leave it connected to the USB port on an external keyboard. Many airlines now allow the use of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi or both during flight, so airplane mode may not be as necessary as it once was, but it’s still needed (usually) during take-offs and landings.Double-press the Home button (if your iPad has one) or swipe up from the bottom of your screen to display App Switcher, which offers thumbnail views for any open apps; swipe to the right to see more apps.

Restart your iPad. Press and hold down the top button, and then slide the slider button to the right to turn it off. Wait a few seconds. Press the top button to turn on the iPad again. You'll need to connect your iPad to the Internet to be able to use most of its features. It's easy to turn your iPad's wireless connection on or off and join nearby networks so you can go online. Once you join a network, your device will connect to it automatically whenever it's in range. If there are no networks in range, it will connect via 3G or 4G instead, but only if you have a 3G- or 4G-enabled device (and a contract with a wireless provider). To turn Wi-Fi on or off: Use standard accessories to charge your iPad most effectively. The most effective way to charge your iPad is to plug it into a wall outlet by using the charging cable and power adapter that come with your iPad. The fastest way to charge the iPad is to turn it off while charging it. Reset the iPad. If the situation seems to be drastic and none of these ideas works, try to reset your iPad. To do this, press the top button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears onscreen. (This reset doesn’t interfere with the data on your iPad.) Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open Control Center, where you can enable and disable Wi-Fi, enable and disable Bluetooth, and much more.Front camera: The front camera comes in handy when you’re FaceTime chatting, but it’s not the best choice for shooting still photos or videos.

Also make sure to have a soft, lint-free cloth for wiping fingerprints and smudges off the screen. Never use household cleaners, alcohol, or other abrasives. Wi-Fi Reboot your iPad.Press and hold down both the top button and the Home button (or the volume up button for iPad Pro models without a Home button). Ignore the Slide to Power Off slider when it appears; continue to hold down both buttons until your iPad restarts and you see the Apple logo in the middle of the screen. Other accessories, like a case or cover for your iPad, are sold separately. If you don't have one yet, now's the time to look for something that fits your style, budget, and personal needs. The Apple Store has several options to choose from, including the popular Smart Cover. The Smart Cover was designed specifically for the iPad and can also be used as a stand. Though it may not look like it, your iPad is a multitasking marvel. Swipe left or right with four or five fingers to switch between recently used apps. If your iPad doesn’t have a Home button, you can also swipe left or right across the bottom of the screen to navigate among your running apps. Reset iPad settings. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen, and then tap General–> Transfer or Reset iPad–>Reset–>Reset All Settings. Resetting iPad settings won’t erase your data, but you’ll have to redo some settings afterwards.Restart the iPad. You can always try the tried-and-true reboot procedure. Press the sleep/wake button until a red slider appears, and drag the slider to the right to turn off your iPad. After a few moments, press the sleep/wake button to boot up the little guy again. Quit apps. If you believe that an app is hanging up the iPad, double-tap the home button or swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Thumbnails of every open app appear. Now swipe up on any apps you would like to quit.
