Rymill, Gavin (November 2016). "Cyber Conversion!". Doctor Who Magazine. No.504. Tunbridge Wells: Panini UK Ltd. pp.44–45. An upgraded form of cybermats appeared in " Nightmare in Silver". They were incredibly small mechanical insects that were more versatile and were able to partially convert other lifeforms into Cybermen. They were referred to as cybermites. The Virgin Missing Adventures novel Killing Ground, by Steve Lyons suggests that some Cybermen imitate emotions to intimidate and unnerve their victims. The Big Finish Productions audio play Spare Parts (set on Mondas in the early days of Cyber-conversion) suggests that the Cybermen deliberately remove their emotions as part of the conversion process to stifle the physical and emotional trauma of becoming a Cyberman.

Rymill, Gavin (November 2016). "Cyber Conversion!". Doctor Who Magazine. No.504. Tunbridge Wells: Panini UK Ltd. p.44. Prue Handley was the costume designer on Revenge of the Cybermen. [23] The costumes were built by freelance prop company Alister Bowtell, and were again based on wet suits, with rubber tubing along the arms and at the knees and elbow. [24] The chest unit props from The Moonbase returned, [23] and included bits of broken television sets. New, larger fibreglass helmets were made, and the costumes had silver gloves and Wellington boots. [25] The third model, seen in Revenge of the Cybermen, was a much larger, snake-like cybermat that could be remotely controlled and could inject poison into its victims. It had no visible eyes or other features, and was as vulnerable to gold dust as the Cybermen were. At one point the Great Cyber War was waged between humanity and the Cybermen, led by the Super Controller on Telos. During this war, the glittergun was invented. ( AUDIO: Last of the Cybermen) During this time the Cybermen were also involved with the Vogan War. During these conflicts, ( PROSE: Killing Ground, TV: Revenge of the Cybermen) The Cybermen attempted to blow up the planet Voga to stop the production of glitterguns, in one of their last acts in the war. ( PROSE: Doctor Who and the Revenge of the Cybermen) The Time Lords also took some kind of action against the Cybermen during the Great Cyber War. ( TV: The Timeless Children) The audio play Real Time implies that the converted victim's face remains beneath the Cyberman faceplate, although the audio plays, like all non-televised spin-off media, are of uncertain canonicity with regard to the television series. In the 2014's " Death in Heaven", Danny Pink removes the faceplate showing his face underneath. The Virgin New Adventures novel Iceberg by David Banks states that some Cybermen experience rare flashes of emotional memory from the time before they were converted; these flashes are then usually suppressed. The Cybermen in the revived series are usually constructed from human brains bonded to a Cyberman exoskeletal shell with an artificially-grown nervous system threaded throughout ("The Age of Steel"), although direct grafting of cyber-components is another method of conversion (" Cyberwoman"). In " The Pandorica Opens", a Cyberman head is shown to open up, revealing an entire human skull, not just the brain.Further into the decade, a Cyberman was a resident of the hidden trap street in London which housed lost aliens on Earth under the protection of Mayor Me. As with the rest of the inhabitants, it appeared cloaked in human form through use of the lurkworms. It was observed by the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald as it had maintenance performed on it by an Ood. ( TV: Face the Raven) In the 1990s, the Cybermen driven from Planet 14 infiltrated the production of a film based on their first invasion. They used the production to identify errors in their original strategies. The Second Doctor arrived and warned them to withdraw as UNIT was aware of their activities. ( PROSE: Scientific Adviser) In 1992, a Cyber-Force composed of a Cyber-Fleet of at least twenty Cyber-Warships with at least two hundred thousand Neomorph Cybermen attempted to conquer Earth by dehydration, but the Sixth Doctor programmed their weapons to target the methanol that served as the "lifeblood" of cyber-technology. ( AUDIO: Hour of the Cybermen)

The pieces of Cyberman costume that were brought together were: a helmet from Wheel in Space, a Chest Unit from The Invasion, and the suit of the Cybercontroller from Tomb of the Cybermen. Peterkin, Tom (30 July 2008). "Doctor Who to be challenged by new Cyberman enemy". The Daily Telegraph. UK. Archived from the original on 12 January 2022 . Retrieved 31 July 2008. In 2000, the Cybermen infected the Earth computers with a virus that removed all vowels. ( PROSE: Vrs) The Preternatural Research Bureau assisted in eradicating the virus. ( PROSE: The Last Dose) The Fourth Doctor ( Tom Baker) is next to encounter a group of Cybermen in Revenge of the Cybermen (1975). These Cybermen are depicted as the wandering remnants of a fallen empire, ravaged by the so-called Cyber-Wars against victorious humanity, which had exploited the Cybermen's weakness to gold. These Cybermen attempt to restore the glory of their race by destroying the gold-rich asteroid Voga. The humans on Mondas developed a drive propulsion system. This was placed in the planet's core to move the entire world. As the original Cybermen were limited in numbers and were continually being depleted, they decided to invade Earth. ( TV: The Tenth Planet) Before Mondas' return to Earth, the Faction attempted a separate invasion of the planet which involved International Electromatics. ( TV: The Invasion, PROSE: Iceberg)Prior to coming to Earth, the Faction had invaded the planet Isos II and converted its humanoid population into Cybermen. By repurposing Isos II's monorail system, a dimensional warp was created which led to Earth. A large invasion fleet of Cybermen waited on Isos II while a smaller amount of Cybermen and a Cyber-Planner went through the warp to establish themselves on Earth and put the planet into a weakened state. ( AUDIO: The Isos Network) A scout ship was sent ahead of the invasion but crashed near Cambridge, killing its crew. ( AUDIO: The Blue Tooth)
