The only thing about them is I would love if the cable was a bit longer, but it's a very minor complaint one of a more personal preference. Poor adaptiveness – the failing of delivering the same perceived frequency response to a wide range of listeners – is the number one reason why we usually recommend headphones from other manufacturers over AKG offerings for use with SoundID Reference. K612 Pro manages to reverse this trend, as they deliver superb adaptiveness and are among the best in this regard, not only among AKG models! How much do they differ pair to pair in terms of frequency response? My Top 2 choices are the K702, then the K712, followed by the K612, K701, and then Q701. I really don’t see a need to link all of them, so I will link the first 2 instead. If I could get the K612 sound, in the K702 body (complete with removable cable), staying with the K612 pads and headband though, I would be completely happy. As it is – I am likely to sell both I think. The exercise has been fun – but ultimately neither gives me what my HD600 does. And I’m narrowing down my stable. The K712’s mid-range sounds very good, but the gradual drop-off after 1kHz can be bothersome at times.

Super-comfortable fully adjustable earpads are held securely in place with a soft leather headband and because the K712 PRO only weigh just over half a pound, you're sure to have an extremely comfortable experience wearing them, just remember to take them off! Needs an amp - not on my iPhone SE 2022 and 2018 macbook pro, but yeah, i max out the volume on both. The K612, K712, and K702 represent the most significant discrepancies between the entire line of K600 and 700 headphones. The headphone images very well and keeps various musical strands from merging into each other even in busy, complex mixes. Sound-staging is good but not a particularly strong point of this headphone, it keeps everything at a medium distance; not very deep or wide. However that suits me fine as I find headphones that are very adept at sound-staging somewhat artificial in their representation of the music, not really true to life at all. Maybe the weirdness at 600Hz in the HE4XX frequency response doesn't help either, I think that is quite difficult to correct for in EQ's (and isn't present in Oratory's measurement to the same degree) - it's a strange shape, it might be somekind of cancellation that doesn't respond to EQ, just an additional thought. I'm a 46 year old music lover. I don't say audiophile – I just love my music. Over the last couple of years, I have slowly changed from cheaper listening set-ups to my current entry/mid-fi set-up. I vary my listening from portable (i-devices) to my desk-top's set-up (PC > coax > NFB-12 > LD MKIV > HP). K601 (and maybe K612?) does seem to have more bass and warmth than the K702 but not the Q701. Just in case anyone cares about that. It also may just be my imagination, but I feel like the K612 is just a smidgen smaller in stature than the rest. Nice leather and metal accents. The pads are velours and very comfortable. Seems to be similar material as used on the K240 velours pads. Gold Plated 3m Single Sided Cable, K612 PRO Reference Class Heaphones, 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) to 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) Gold Plated Adapter See moreAside from some minor cosmetic differences, all 5 of these headphones look, feel, and function in pretty much the exact same way. I consider the K612 an improvement over the Q701 at a lower price point. Not only is the headband more comfortable, the highs are less irritating, and the bass is fuller. AKG has never had a better sounding headphone at a lower price point. Audiophiles will be pleased with the reproduction on this headphone. The only real competitor in its price range is the Audio Technica AD900X. But I think more people will prefer the sound signature of the K612, it works better across more genres. A lot of people have fit/comfort issues with the headband on the Audio Technica's too.

I almost never find myself wanting to listen to it (outside of doing this A/B/C), and do plan to either give it away or sell it.I will say that again, the 612 may be a hair better for stuff like Jazz and Classical (for some), but it’s still pretty close at the end of the day. What’s obvious is the resemblance above 5kHz to the K400/500 above. The K612 has a similar ‘bump’ around 2.5kHz followed by a small dip. The K612 doesn’t show the typical roll-off below 100Hz which the 400/500 series shows. In fact I would say it is rather flat.

soundstage is just perfect for my preference, it's not too huge or too airy, and imaging is exceptional for a medium sized soundstage, and can be a great gaming headphone too, if you are into competitive gaming. Right channel only. The felt only lowers the peaks in amplitude and the rest remains exactly the same.

The K702 also has a tad more extension than the 701, but it’s very, very close. Again, DON’T OVERTHINK IT! Aside from a small correction of the microphone itself also some correction in the lowest frequencies is applied to the plots to compensate for the perceived loss of bass when using headphones. This is described HERE in more detail. The K612 being 120 Ω doesn’t mean it should be driven from a 120 Ω amplifier but it does change its sonic signature slightly on a higher output resistance. In my opinion slightly for the better. The output level drops about 6dB when a 120Ω adapter is used so it won’t play loud enough on portable players any more though. An amplifier with a 100Ω to 120Ω output R will bump up the sound quality. For the sound section, I will give one certain example per genre which will make my opinions more revealing.
